Welcome to Kovolution!
If you're looking for a unique weekend activity in Jeju that combines the local tradition of horse breeding with modern entertainment, Let's Run Park Jeju is the place to be. Whether you are there for the adrenaline of the race or a relaxing picnic with the family, this massive complex offers something for everyone.π First Impressions: More Than Just a Racetrack
Let's Run Park Jeju is not just a gambling venue; it’s a vast multi-purpose theme park. Located against the beautiful backdrop of Jeju’s mountains, the park features a traditional Hanok-style main building that gives it a distinct local feel.
Accessibility: The park boasts a massive parking lot, making it very convenient for those with rental cars.
Entrance Fee: Surprisingly, admission can be extremely affordable or even free depending on the day or special promotions. I managed to get a free entry ticket during my visit!
π The Jeju Specialty: Pony Racing
One of the most unique aspects of this racecourse is that it features Jeju Ponies (Jorang-mal). Unlike the tall Thoroughbreds you see in Seoul or Busan, these local horses are smaller, sturdier, and incredibly fast for their size. Watching these "compact" athletes sprint down the dirt track is a charming yet intense experience unique to Jeju Island.
π Understanding the Betting System
For many, the highlight is participating in the horse racing system. Here is a breakdown of how it works for beginners:
Get the Information: Near the entrance, you can find booths selling "Specialized Racing Newspapers" (κ²½λ§μ λ¬Έμ§). These guides provide detailed stats on the horses, their recent performance, and the jockeys.
The Betting Hall: Inside the main building, you’ll find a high-tech betting hall filled with screens showing real-time odds and live races from across the country.
The Betting Slip (OMR Card): You fill out an OMR card to place your bet. The main types of bets are:
Win (λ¨μΉ): Pick the 1st place horse.
Place (μ°μΉ): Pick a horse that finishes in the top 3.
Quinella (볡μΉ): Pick the top 2 horses (order doesn't matter).
Exacta (μμΉ): Pick the top 2 horses in the exact order.
Trio (μΌλ³΅μΉ): Pick the top 3 horses (order doesn't matter).
Payout: Once the race is finalized, you can scan your ticket at the machines to receive your winnings.
π‘ A Paradise for Families (Dream Land & Pony Land)
If you aren't into betting, the park is designed to be a massive playground. According to the park map, it is divided into several zones:
Dream Land: Features a carousel, bicycle rentals, and various play equipment for children.
Pony Land: A place where kids can get up close with cute ponies and experience riding them.
Mocheol Land: A nature-focused zone perfect for walks and picnics.
The outdoor grandstand offers plenty of seating where you can enjoy the fresh air and the view of the horses galloping past.
π Practical Information
Address: 3045 Pyeonghwa-ro, Yusuam-ri, Aeawol-eup, Jeju-si.
Race Days: Usually Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (check the official KRA website for the latest schedule).
Kovolution Tip: Even if you don't bet, it’s worth visiting just for the atmosphere. The sight of the horses running with Hallasan Mountain in the distance is truly picturesque.
It’s a fantastic way to spend a half-day in Jeju, especially if you want to experience a local leisure culture that has deep roots in the island's history.
